34 Beaches - 39 Hidden Gems - 23 Places & Much More

Routemap

Finding your way arround

Fuerteventura is big – but not complicated. We have put together the Fuerteventura Travel Guide with 34 beaches, 39 hidden gems and much more for you. The south has the best-known resorts, the most famous beaches and the heart of water sports. The north has the dunes of Corralejo, El Cotillo the surf spot and the original Fuerteventura. The centre has the capital Puerto del Rosario and the quiet Caleta de Fuste. And everywhere in between: an island that has more to offer than most people expect.

InsiderFuerteventura is organised by region – south, centre, north. Every region has its own town pages with beaches, restaurants, activities, hotels and practical tips straight from people who live there. On top of that, a blog with current topics – arrival, rental cars, your first days, and much more that you should know before the trip.

New to Fuerteventura? Start with the blog. Already know where you are heading? Go straight to the region. Looking for a particular place or topic? The search in the menu at the top will help. And if you just want to browse – welcome. That is exactly what we are here for.

Note for the page:  „The linked pages may currently be in German – we are working on the English versions.“

More than a holiday

More than a holiday

Fuerteventura is an island you never forget. Many who come once come back. Some stay.

Whether you are arriving for the first time and want to know how the airport works, where to find the best rental car and what you should not miss in your first week – or whether you are wondering if this island could be more for you than two weeks a year: InsiderFuerteventura is with you.

Practical tips for new arrivals. Honest information for everyone who wants to stay longer. And for everyone who simply wants to know where the food is really good, which beach is best at which time of day, and what the locals would recommend if they had the time.

Fuerteventura has no high season of life – the island is itself all year round. The wind blows in January just as in August, the beaches are emptier and more beautiful in October than in summer, and if you come in winter you will find calm, light and space – which you have to look harder for in high summer. We will show you where.

Fuerteventura is more than an island. It is a philosophy of life.

The North

The North — rugged, original, unforgettable

The north of Fuerteventura is different. Volcanic landscape, endless sandy beaches, relaxed island villages – and people who found exactly what they were looking for.

Corralejo in the north-east is the liveliest town in the north – once a fishing village, today a meeting point for surfers, kiters and everyone looking for the original. The dunes of the natural park right on the doorstep, turquoise water, a town centre that really lives. From here the ferries go to the island of Lobos – one of the last untouched spots in the Canary Islands – and to Lanzarote, for everyone who wants to discover the neighbouring island.

El Cotillo on the west coast is the opposite – smaller, quieter, wilder. North of the village, rough coast and waves for surfers. Towards the south, sheltered bays with crystal-clear water. The old Faro de Tostón lighthouse, small fish restaurants, sunsets over the Atlantic. Time passes more slowly here – and that is a good thing.

Lajares inland is the creative heart of the north. Surfers, artists, people who consciously live differently. A small market at the weekend, good cafés, and all around volcanoes that invite you to hike. Whoever climbs the Calderón Hondo sees almost the whole island – and Lanzarote on the horizon.

The Center

The Center — Capital, Port & the quiet Resort

Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura – not a holiday resort, but a real town. If you want to experience the island away from the tourist trails, you will pass through here. The port is the largest on the island – ferries, cargo ships and more and more cruise ships call here, most recently more than 180 ships per season. The harbour promenade with its sculptures and mosaics invites you to stroll, and the town centre can be explored on foot.

The town used to be called „Puerto de Cabras“ – Goat Harbour. Not a flattering name, but an honest one. Today Puerto del Rosario has changed – with a promenade, a restored centre and the flair of a small island capital that lives its everyday life. No mass tourism, no beach hype – but real life.

Caleta de Fuste – also called Castillo – is the exact opposite. A quiet resort right next to the airport, with a small sheltered bay, a wide sandy beach and everything you need. Hotels of all categories, a golf course, water sports, restaurants. If you want to arrive relaxed and be at the water straight away – Caleta de Fuste is the easiest choice on Fuerteventura.

The South

The South – world-class beaches, wind & the real Fuerteventura

Costa Calma is the heart of the south – quiet, family-friendly, with the world-famous Sotavento lagoon right on the doorstep. Kilometres of beach walks, white sand, turquoise water. And the wind that holds it all together.

The Sotavento lagoon is one of the best-known windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in the world – René Egli and the ION Club make it possible for everyone, from beginner to pro. To the south, Esquinzo and Butihondo follow, then Jandía with its long promenade and Morro Jable with the harbour behind it.

And if you go even further – 45 minutes of gravel track from Morro Jable – you will find Cofete. Fourteen kilometres of deserted Atlantic beach, Villa Winter, mountain backdrop. One of the most impressive beaches in Europe. Not for swimming – but unforgettable.

The south is strong. We know it inside out.

Why InsiderFuerteventura?

As a family, we have lived on Fuerteventura for 30 years. We accompany you from A like arrival to Z. With real insider tips & information.

Because it makes a difference whether someone has had two weeks of holiday on Fuerteventura – or has lived there for 30 years.

We know the beaches that no guidebook mentions. The restaurants where the locals eat. The spots that only work if you know when the tide comes in. The shortcuts, the hidden gems, the mistakes tourists make when they do not know the island.

InsiderFuerteventura is not a travel blog. It is what we would tell our guests if we had the time – now written down
